Chaa Thai Podcast, Season 2 Ep. 10 James Whitmore
1–2 minutes

Chaa Thai is a podcast spilling the tea on Peace Corps volunteer life in Thailand! Each episode, hosts Alyssa Strong and Lilly Hromadka interview a current Peace Corps volunteer in Thailand and do a deep dive on their experience at their host site. The tea is that there are as many examples of what service is like for a volunteer in Thailand as there are volunteers  join us as we get a taste!

At the foothills of Khao Yai, we set up our table in the province of Prachin Buri, to share some herbal tea with YinD volunteer James. The blend is very important this time, as James’ dedication to his faith not only impacts his tea choices, but also the way he experiences life in Thailand. He spills about how his life and spirituality have grown from being here, and how it compares to his previous time abroad in the Philippines.

Before we finished the first kettle, however, we heard about the particulars of his life at site, communication difficulties volunteers face with counterparts and community members, and how he’s made the best of living far from other volunteers. Our cups are full of memories, determination, and resilience this week, and we’re excited to invite you to take a sip as it all spills over!

Bonus Story: Colt and I randomly ran into Mormon missionaries on our New Years trip to Rayong, on New Year’s Eve. Walked around a festival with them for like an hour or two, just chatting and having a good time, bought them all some dinner/snacks and drinks. Really cool just because I’d been in their shoes once, and they’re familiar with our lifestyle too, with all the language and cultural learning.
