I traveled by car from Chiang Mai (about 4-5 hours), but there are also buses/vans. You can buy a ticket from Chiang Mai to Mae Hong Son and ask to get off at Soppong. From Soppong, you can get a taxi to Cave Lodge. You pass through Pai before getting to Soppong. It would also be possible to travel from Chiang Mai to Pai and then separately from Pai to Soppong/Cave Lodge.

Cave Lodge is a super chill hiking/caving outpost run by an Australian (John) who has been living in Thailand for over 30 years. I made an email reservation for two bungalows, showed up in a group of four, and each night we chatted with John about what we wanted to do the next day. We did three expeditions in two full days (stayed three nights). Every moment was AMAZING.
