What to Expect During a Race

Ty Miranda, 127 YinD

Haha, so what can you expect? EXPECT CRAZINESS. No, just kidding. But, you can expect a type of rush that is better than a runner’s high. It’s the rush that only happens when there are thousands of others running with you with a similar goal: to finish a challenge.

In terms of logistics, here is some information. The race starts at the Golden Jubilee Convention Center at your set times. I have listed them below.

Start Time
Marathon (42.195 km): 04.15 a.m.
Half Marathon (21.10 km): 05.25 a.m.
Mini Marathon (11.55 km): 06.00 a.m.
Walk & Fun Run (4.5 km): 08.00 a.m.

Make sure to be on time and either get in the back or the front of the pack. Remember that the first few miles or kilometers, you’ll be running with a bunch of people, but that the crowd will thin out as time and distance go on.

Make sure you hit the convention center before race day. The website notes, “The race bib number, chip, and race singlet must be claimed at the pre-race Marathon Registration Desk in the Marathon Expo between 10.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m. on 27-28 January, 2017 at the Golden Jubilee Convention Hall, Khon Kaen University, Khon Kaen Province. To claim your bib number, singlet, and other items you must present your official I.D.”

As a side note, if you still want to register for the race, you can! “Registration is possible during the 2 days before to the race by the organizers: The Golden Jubilee Convention Hall, Khon Kaen University, Khon Kaen Province, on January 27-28, 2017, from 10.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m.”

For transportation on race day, there is a free shuttle system set up by the race organizers. This is super awesome and you should take advantage of it. Check out the route here.

Lastly, if you are coming from the airport, the race organizers also set up a transportation system on January 28 that will give you a free lift from the airport to the convention center. Click here for more information.
