Glyn T. Davies is Thailand’s New Ambassador!

Glyn T. Davies, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, class of Minister-Counselor, was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on August 5, 2015 to be Ambassador to the Kingdom of Thailand. Davies most recently served as Senior Advisor in the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs of the Department of State. He has earned a reputation as a strong leader with a wealth of experience at senior policy levels in Washington and abroad, he has proven management and consensus building skills, as well as extensive contacts and a deep knowledge of Asian affairs and international politics.

Previously, Mr. Davies served as Special Representative for North Korea Policy (2012-2014), Permanent Representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency and the United Nations Office, Vienna, Austria (2009-2012), Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary and Deputy Assistant Secretary, East Asia and Pacific Affairs Bureau (2006-2009), Senior Advisor, Foreign Service Institute Leadership Management School (2005-2006), Acting Assistant Secretary, Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor (2005), Deputy Assistant Secretary, Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs (2004-2005), Political Director for the U.S. Presidency of the G-8 with rank of Ambassador (2003-2004) and Deputy Chief of Mission, U.S. Embassy London, United Kingdom (1999-2003). He also served as Executive Secretary at the National Security Council, Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of Public Affairs and Deputy Spokesperson, Director of the Office of Recruitment, Examination and Employment and Director of the Operations Center. He was Special Assistant to Secretary of State George Shultz and served at the U.S. Embassy in France, in the Office of European Security and Political Affairs, in the Operations Center, at the U.S. Embassy in Zaire and at the U.S. Consulate in Melbourne, Australia.

Mr. Davies earned a M.S. at the National War College in 1995 and a B.S. from Georgetown University in 1979. He has been the recipient of numerous Senior Foreign Service Performance and Honor Awards. He and his wife Jacqueline M. Davies, a lawyer, have two daughters and two granddaughters. He speaks French.
